General Education Curriculum Committee

Mission and Purpose

An interdisciplinary committee of faculty coordinates the General Education Program, which includes the University Distribution Requirements and the School of Arts and Sciences General Education Core Curriculum. The charge of the Committee is to:

  • Review, discuss, and recommend changes or additions to the Distribution Requirements/General Education learning goals and competencies;
  • Review proposals for new courses that will be added to the Distribution Requirements/General Education curriculum;
  • Document, via the syllabi/assignment audit that the Distribution Requirements/General Education Program outcomes are being addressed consistently and adequately through all the designated courses;
  • Document that the results of assessment are being used to strengthen and improve the Distribution Requirements/General Education Program.

The Committee’s reports and recommendations are forwarded to the Associate Vice-President for Undergraduate Studies, to the Undergraduate Studies Council, to and the faculty.
