As a Barry University employee, working a minimum requirement of 30 hours per week and classified as a regular full-time employee, you are eligible for a wide range of benefit programs.

Coverage begins the first day of the month following date of hire of F/T employment for medical, dental, and life insurance coverage. Long-term disability coverage begins the first dayfollowing 90 days of F/T employment.
All benefits require you to enroll in order to participate.

Barry’s medical and dental plans offer coverage for you and your family, which includes eligible dependents.

Family members include:

  • Your spouse
  • Dependent children by birth, adoption or legal guardianship.
  • Legal Domiciled Adult.

A child of a Participant shall be deemed a Dependent until the last day of calendar year in which such child attains 26 years of age. The child may be married, live outside the home, and/or be employed.

Qualifying Events

Certain life events allow you to make changes in benefits that are normally available only once a year during the open enrollment period. These are commonly referred to as “qualifying events”.

When you experience one of the qualifying events listed below, you may be able to change your benefits and coverage levels. You must make the change WITHIN 31 DAYS OF THE QUALIFYING EVENT.

Qualifying Events:

  • Marriage
  • Birth of a child
  • Adoption of a child
  • Given legal guardianship of a child
  • Spouse has an employment change
  • Dependent loses eligibility
  • Divorce
  • Death of a dependent
