Message from Barry University’s President Sister Linda Bevilacqua, OP, PhD regarding the SACS On-Site Reaffirmation Committee Visit March 17-20, 2014
For about eighteen months we have been engaged in an internal review process involving constitutive members of the University community in preparation for the reaffirmation of our university’s reaccreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). This comprehensive and deliberate process has given us the opportunity for focused self-assessment.
As you will note by reading the information below, we are preparing to welcome an On-Site Reaffirmation Committee. Since this reaccreditation is for the entire university, some committee members will visit the Law School and a few other sites at which we offer Barry degrees. The entire Committee will gather on the main campus in Miami Shores on Tuesday afternoon and again on Wednesday during which they will meet with the members of the QEP Committee, a few members of the Board and a few students, and with me. They will conclude their visit with an Exit Conference on Thursday morning.
In accomplishing their role, they will also meet with various administrators to ensure that we are in compliance with criteria outlined in federal regulations defined by the US Department of Education.
SACSCOC assessment and accreditation are voluntary. In the end, our university community will benefit from what we have learned about ourselves and from the advice of the On-Site Reaffirmation Committee.
I hope you will join me in offering gratitude and appreciation to the University Provost, Dr. Linda Peterson, who has guided and directed this process for our University, to the members of the Compliance Certification Committee, the members of the QEP Committee and the innumerable members of our University community who provided data and information. I also know that I can count on you to offer a gracious and hospitable welcome to the members of the SACSCOC On-Site Reaffirmation Committee.
